Awaaayy We Go — Straight into 2017

And away we go, straight into 2017!

Away we go into 2017. Here's how to build value!

Away we go into 2017. Here’s how to build value!

Already, the Sales & Marketing Council enjoyed breakfast and networking together, the Remodelers Council met and we’re all set to relax and catch up at our First Holiday Recovery Session on Jan. 19.  People jumping into these activates know that Metro can bring them closer to hitting their 2017 business goals and that there’s no time like now to get started.

How can Metro help you hit your goals? People want to do business with people they know.  If they can’t do that, they at least want someone recommended by others in their network. By getting involved with Metro, you become that person that others know…and call.

You’ve heard it before, right?  But have you done it? Here are five things for you to do that will – absolutely will – bring you business:

  1. Be patient. Membership in Metro isn’t a fire sale. It’s about building relationships. People do business with people with whom they have relationships.
  2. Come to a meeting. Make yourself available for a couple of hours of food, drink and other people. You’ll meet other members and find a way to be a resource. You’ll learn about Metro.
  3. Join a council. Councils help a group of people with common interests explore those interests and build on them. A council is a good place to show off your knowledge or learn from experts. Working in a council, participating in a discussion, helping to plan events or just chatting with others helps people get to know you and know what you’re capable of. It builds your reputation and your relationships (there’s that word again). And that … wait for it … can lead to business.
  4. Get involved in a committee. Committees are our way of divvying up the work of running Metro. Working on a committee is a great way to see your ideas enacted. You’ll learn the ins and outs of our organization. And, once again, it’s a great way for folks to get to know you and for you to know them. That, eventually, leads to phone calls.
  5. Be a sponsor. Sponsorships get your name and message in front of members and guests. They show that you support the association and its members. You might take a small event sponsorship or invest in a hammer sponsorship that covers a variety of opportunities and keeps your name in front of people.

You joined Metro to improve and grow your business. Try a combination of these five steps. Keep in mind that you need to do it for a few months to begin to feel the impact. And if you talk with our must successful businesspeople, they’ll tell you they’ve been doing these things for years.

As EO, my job is to make sure that Metro delivers value to you.  But if you get active in Metro and meet people and build relationships – if you try those five suggestions — you won’t need the office staff to build value for you. You’ll find value and business in the friends and colleagues you discover.

Our New Year wish for you is that your network of colleagues and along with it, your business, grows.
